Thomas H. Leab, 92

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Thomas H. Leab, 92, of 169 Maplegrove Drive passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016, at Craneville Place of Dalton, where he had resided since July.



Born on September 29, 1924, in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Hurlbut Leab. A lifelong Pittsfield resident, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School. After high school he proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.



He married his wife, the former Caroline J. Messina, on February 20, 1965 at the former All Souls Church in Pittsfield. She died on April 14, 1999.



Mr. Leab was employed at General Electric for 46 years, retiring in 1986. He worked from 1940 to 1980 in Power Transformers and Woodworking and from 1980 to 1986 in Naval Ordnance Systems OP3 as a Guidance Module painter.



He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed traveling and had visited Europe many times. He also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and was a longtime fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings.



He leaves his son, Thomas F. Leab and his significant other Sally J. Foley of Pittsfield; his daughter, Mary L. Roy of Ellington, Conn.; five grandchildren, Jason T. Roy and his significant other Sherry Petras, Devan T. Leab and his significant other Angela Mastrogiacomo, Derek D. Leab and his wife Emily, Michael J. Foley, and Matthew J. Foley and his wife Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Nathan J. Roy, Audrianna L. Leab and Ella L. Foley.



He was predeceased by a daughter, the late Dianne Leab, who passed away March 3, 1976.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Thomas H. Leab, who passed away September 30, 2016, will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 11 a.m. from the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.



Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorial donations in memory of Tom may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
