Mildred I. Murphy, 98

DALTON, Mass. — Mildred Irene Murphy, 98, of RiverRun Apartments, Dalton, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center.



Born in Stephentown, N.Y., the daughter of Orson J. and Minnie Humphrey Holt, she was educated in Stephentown schools, was a 1935 graduate of New Lebanon Central High School, and attended the State University of New York at Albany.



She was employed by Carr Hardware and Supply where she was a pricing clerk for eighteen years. Previously, she had worked Frank Howard Hardware where she did clerical work for six years.



Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Elks Club Ladies Auxiliary and had served as president. She had been active with the Boys and Girls Scouts. She enjoyed reading and playing with her cats.



She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Norman D. Alderman and Daniel J. Murphy.



Mrs. Murphy is survived by a daughter, Linda N. Garney of Pittsfield; a son, Robert D. Alderman (and his wife Sandy) of Lanesborough; seven grandchildren, John, Mark, Jeffrey, Tammy, Carolyn, Ann and Chantal; 13 great-grandchildren, Bryant, Devon, Quinn, Addison, Jaelyn, Mikael, Eyzaeya, Jaeda and Liah; as well as six great-great-grandchildren.



She was pre-deceased by two daughters, Cheryl Hill and Judith Converse; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Morris.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Mildred Irene Murphy will be held Friday, September 9, at 1 p.m., at Dalton United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephanie Filiault, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.



Calling hours will be Thursday, September 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dery-Foley Funeral Home in Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to B.C.A.R.C. in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
