Francis N. Pierce, 85

DALTON -- Francis N. "Red" Pierce, 85, of 228 Citron Way, North Fort Myers, Fla., a former Dalton resident of 35 years, died Oct. 7 at Cape Coral (Fla.) Hospital.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 26, 1915, the son of Francis and Maude Gilbert Pierce, he attended schools there and graduated from Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Pierce served with the 1st Armored Engineers, spending 2 1/2 years in the European theater, where he saw action in Africa and at Anzio and Casino, Italy.
He was employed by Crane & Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1980 as assistant superintendent of the Pioneer Mill. He moved to Florida in 1980, where he was a member of the Fort Myers American Legion Post 38.
Mr. Pierce leaves his wife, the former Agnes MacMichael, whom he married on May 24, 1941; two sons, Richard N. Pierce of Pittsfield and Francis E. Pierce of Wawautosa, Wis.; four grandsons and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by another son, David F. Pierce.
