Dorothy K. Hine, 83

PITTSFIELD -- Dorothy K. Hine, 83, of Melbourne Place Assisted Living Community died Saturday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 4, 1918, daughter of Harry and Frances Perry Kornfeld, she was a longtime resident of Pittsfield, attending the former Dawes School and graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1936. She also was a 1940 graduate of Boston University College of Practical Arts and Letters, where she received a diploma in secretarial studies.
She had resided at 53 Chickering St. for many years and moved to Schenectady, N.Y., in 1967. She returned to Pittsfield in 1979.
Mrs. Hine was employed by GE before attending college and as an engineering assistant during the World War II.
She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Schenectady and was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church in Pittsfield and of its Esther Ling chapter. She and her husband, Nelson F. Hine, organized class reunions for Dawes School and the Pittsfield High class of 1936.
She enjoyed sewing and making doll clothes for her grandchildren and stamp collecting.
Her husband, whom she married Sept. 5, 1942, at First Baptist Church, died March 15, 1999.
She leaves a daughter, Linda H. Engle of Pittsfield; two sons, Jeffrey N. Hine of Cheshire and David E. Hine of Schenectady; a sister, Eleanor K. Brudos of Schenectady, and eight grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE --A memorial service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Rennie, pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund at 88 South St., Pittsfield. DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
