PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Bertha Evelyn Bonneau Del Gallo, 85, of Pittsfield passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2016, after a long illness.
She was born in Pittsfield on January 2, 1931, daughter of Oscar N. Bonneau and Juliette Rheaume Bonneau. She was educated in parochial schools in Pittsfield. She was a former communicant of Notre Dame and All Souls Church. Prior to her marriage to former Pittsfield Mayor Remo Del Gallo on July 1, 1950, Mrs. Del Gallo was employed at the Eaton Paper Corporation. Following her marriage, in addition to being a homemaker and caring for her family, she could be found working alongside her husband at Del Gallo's Restaurant in Pittsfield.
A woman of boundless energy and stamina, Bertha never seemed to stop moving and was always attentive to the needs of others. Self-reliant and of strong character, she always set high expectations for herself. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, crocheting, and shopping. Kind and caring, devoted to her family, a generous and loyal friend, she was loved by many. She was particularly proud of her children and of the accomplishments of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Del Gallo is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Remo Del Gallo; her two daughters, Linda Crawford and her husband Jerry of Des Moines, Iowa, and Karen Ingegni and her husband Albert of Pittsfield; grandchildren Alyssa Ingegni and her husband Chester Lee of West Sand Lake, N.Y., Katelyn Crawford and her husband John Kupstas of Kansas City, Mo., Erin Nicorata and her husband Dan of Orland Park, Ill., and Conor Crawford of Des Moines, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Claire Nicorata; her brother, Victor Bonneau, and his wife Suzann of Acton, Mass.; her brother-in-law, Rinaldo Del Gallo, and his wife Joyce of Pittsfield; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Ernest and Rene Bonneau; and her sisters, Arlene Harris, Rita Archambault and Della Shogry. The Del Gallo family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Bertha's caregivers, Cheryl Mierzejewski, Deanna Zurrin and Gina Drake for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral notice: Services will take place Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at 9 a.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, 89 Briggs Ave., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Aug. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Del Gallo may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
