William C. Hazen, 69

DALTON -- William C. Hazen, 69, of 56 Deming St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Port Allegheny, Pa., on March 5, 1932, son of William H. and Lola Belle Murphy Hazen, he was a 1950 graduate of Roulette Township (Pa.) High School and attended technical schools in Pennsylvania. He moved to Dalton in 1966.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a staff sergeant. He served several months overseas.

Mr. Hazen was employed by GE in the ordnance division, where he worked in quality control for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He then started a consulting firm, from which he retired in 1994.

He was an active member of First Congregational Church, where he served on the board of deacons and as a church trustee. He was also a member of the Dalton Lions Club and the Dalton American Legion Post 155, and enjoyed deep sea fishing and hunting.

He and his wife the former Patricia E. Whitney, were married March 29, 1952.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Air Force Col. Michael W. Hazen of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and Thomas W. Hazen of Dalton; a daughter, Katherine H. Bishop of Dalton, and seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William C. Hazen will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Ashuelot Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Dalton Lions Club in care of BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Among survivors are a beloved mother-in-law, Eva R. Whitney of Dalton; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen M. Hazen of Ohio; a son-in-law, Robert W. Bishop Jr. and a daughter-in-law, Jill M. Hazen, both of Dalton, and seven grandchildren, Scott M. Hazen, Shawn P.W. Hazen, Nathaniel W. Hazen, Sydney A. Hazen, Matthew W. Bishop, Jonathan R. Bishop and Rachael E. Bishop.
