PITTSFIELD -- Katherine R. Salvadore Barbas, 92, formerly of 33 Maplewood Ave., Maplewood Apartments, died Saturday at the Center for Optimum Care-Berkshire where she had resided since Jan. 5, 1996.
Born in Polia, province of Catanzaro, Italy, on Oct. 20, 1908, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Teti Ruscio. She emigrated to Pittsfield at the age of 4 and attended local schools.
Mrs. Barbas worked for the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill for 24 years, retiring in 1973.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and traveling.
Her first husband, Angelo D. Salvadore, whom she married June 6, 1931, died Nov. 10, 1978. Her husband, Amandio Barbas, whom she married Sept. 4, 1982, died Nov. 6, 1992.
She leaves two daughters, Elizabeth M. Shogry of Pittsfield and Barbara S. Coco of Richmond; two sons, Angelo J. Salva-dore of Riverdale, N.Y., and Rich-ard Salvadore of Pittsfield; a brother, Nicholas P. Ruscio of New Lebanon, N.Y.; two sisters, Maria Celia Rash of Lenox and Martha D. Harris of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Katherine R. Salvadore Barbas, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001. Beloved mother of Elizabeth M. Shogry, Barbara S. Coco, Angelo J. Salvadore and Richard Salvadore. Dear sister of Nicholas P. Ruscio, Maria Celia Rash and Martha D. Harris. Lovingly survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 8 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Stockbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Oct. 9, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Barbas was predeceased by a brother, Bruno J. Ruscio.
