DALTON -- Howard W. Bonney, 89, of 24 Greenleaf Drive, Hampden, a native of Dalton, died Friday.
Born on June 25, 1912, son of Frederick and Ina Pierce Bonney, he attended local schools. He lived in Dalton for many years before moving to Hampden.
Mr. Bonney was employed by the former Byron-Weston Co. as a papercutter for 35 years. He retired in 1973.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Masons in Dalton and a member of the Chic-Mates Square Dance Club in Chicopee.
A self-taught harmonica player, he enjoyed playing socially for children in schools or while a volunteer at special functions. He also enjoyed drawing.
He leaves his wife, the former Margaret Coffey; a son, David A. Bonney of Becket; two daughters, Joan B. Shea of Hampden and Barbara A. Dupuis of Dalton; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Howard W. Bonney will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at Main Street Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 6 at BYRON FUNERAL HOME, 1858 Allen St., Springfield. Donations may be made to the Susan B. Auchter Kidney Unit in care of Baystate Medical Center, Development Office: WMB5 Springfield, MA 01119, or the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Western New England Inc., 50 Maple St., P.O. Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01102-9058, www.bhrfh.com. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Eva Bonney of Becket, and two sons-in-law, Michael Shea of Hampden and John Dupuis of Dalton. He was predeceased by seven sisters and two brothers.
