PITTSFIELD -- Dorothy I. Collins, 69, of Bath, Maine, formerly of Pittsfield, died Thursday at Hawthorne House in Freeport, Maine, after a long illness.
Born in Lanesboro on Nov. 12, 1931, daughter of Robert and Dorothy I. Mickle Leab, she attended local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Collins was employed by Girardi Distributors in Pittsfield for many years. She moved to Bangor, Maine, in 1970, where she was employed by R.L. Faulkner in Brewer, Maine, as a bookkeeper. She moved to Bath in 1981 and was employed by Bill Dodge in Brunswick, Maine, retiring in 1997 as office manager.
She enjoyed music and cooking.
She leaves her husband, Luther "Rip" Collins; four sons, Gary Bassett of Gloucester, R.I., Stephen Collins of Virginia, Jeffery Bassett of Phippsburg, Maine, and Nathan Bassett of Kennebunk, Maine; five daughters, Donna Lee Bassett of Bath, Donna Marie Collins of Virginia, Linda Collins of the state of Florida, Diana More of Orrington, Maine, and Alicia Collins of Bath; 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gayle Bassett.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Visiting hours for Dorothy I. Leab Collins will be today from 4 to 6 at MAYO, CURTIS & HILL FUNERAL HOME, 819 High St., Bath, Maine. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow at 1 at the funeral home by the Rev. John Lathrop. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association Serving Maine, P.O. Box 97136, Washington, DC 20090-7136.
