Josephine Polchlopek

Josephine A. Polchlopek, 83, formerly of Rose Manor Apartments, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. She had been a resident of Springside of Pittsfield since January.
Born in Adams on May 3, 1918, daughter of Ignace and Anna Noga Skorupsky, she attended Adams schools.
She was first employed in area mills and moved to Pittsfield in 1946. She then was employed by the former Campus Girl factory for several years and, most recently, in the laundry department at Berkshire Medical Center, retiring in 1975.
She attended St. Charles' Church. She enjoyed being a volunteer at the Polish Community Club, where she cooked the suppers for various activities. She also participated in the club's penny socials, and enjoyed painting with oils.
Her husband, Walter A. Polchlopek, whom she married May 14, 1946, died Jan. 13, 1989.
She leaves a daughter, Maryann R. Carmel of Dalton, and two grandchildren. A son, Walter A. Polchlopek Jr., died as a result of an automobile accident in 1966. She was predeceased by her six brothers, Alexander, Stanley, Alfred, Daniel, Ernest and John Skorupsky, and her two sisters, Julia Jodoin and Mary LaFleur.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 at St. Charles' Church, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday morning at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services in care of the funeral home.
