Gertrude L. Fox, 88, of 169 Valentine Road died Sunday evening at Hillcrest Commons, where she resided for the two years.
Born in Huntington on June 10, 1913, daughter of Howard and Louise Plankey Mack, she attended Dalton schools. She had resided in Pittsfield most of her life.
Mrs. Fox was owner and operator several boarding houses in Pittsfield for 12 years, including houses on Francis Avenue and Union Street. She retired in 1978.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of its rosary sodality.
Her husband, Edward W. "Red" Fox, whom she married Oct. 12, 1933, died Dec. 23, 1988.
She leaves a son, Joseph E. Fox of Pittsfield; two daughters, Lucille A. Breault and Dorrine M. Vilot, both of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fox was predeceased by two sisters, Grace Pomeroy and Doris Pierson.
The funeral will be tomorrow, Oct. 3, at 8:15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 in St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Oct. 3, from 3 to 5. If friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
