Edith C. Shaw Smithson, 94, of North Falmouth, a native of Pittsfield, died Friday at home.
Born on July 20, 1907, daughter of Howard and Bessie Bovet Culver, she grew up in Dalton and attended Hampshire School of Business. She had been a summer resident of North Falmouth from 1960 until moving there from Chelmsford permanently in 1974.
Mrs. Smithson was employed as a secretary in the medical department of Smith College for several years.
She was a member of North Falmouth Congregational Church and a former member of the Crawford Memorial Methodist Church in Winchester. She was a founder and past president of the Faculty Wives Club of Lowell University.
Her first husband, Edward C. Shaw, died in 1937.
She leaves her husband, Gerald Smithson; a son, Edward S. Shaw of Taunton-Somerset, England; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today, Oct. 1, at 11 in North Falmouth Congregational Church, Old Main Road, North Falmouth. Burial will be in North Falmouth Cemetery.
