Sylvia J. McNay, 82, of 904 Route 2, Shelburne Falls, formerly of 65 Burke Ave., Pittsfield, died Monday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on March 10, 1919, daughter of Arthur J. and Flossie A. Cummins Gies, she was a 1938 graduate of Bassick High School in Bridgeport, Conn.
She moved to Pittsfield in 1939 to attend the Hillcrest Hospital School of Nursing and became a licensed professional nurse in 1941. She was employed at Hillcrest Hospital for 31 years, retiring in 1972. She moved to Shelburne Falls in 1996.
While in Pittsfield, she was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne Falls.
Her husband, Dana A. McNay, whom she married June 14, 1943, died June 9, 1980.
She leaves two sons, Dana A. McNay of Shelburne Falls and Sandy McNay of Adams; a sister, Betty Ross of West Hartford, Conn.; a brother, James Gies of South Kingstown, R.I.; three grandchildren, and her former husband, Aldo Liccardi of Pittsfield.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Pittsfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Mary Scrieber, Missioner of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, officiating. Friends are asked to meet inside the cemetery gate at 12:45. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the Shelburne Falls Senior Center or to the Anchorage Nursing Home in care of the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
