James R. Hynes

James Raymond Hynes, 86, of Vinal Avenue died Tuesday morning at home after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Tewksbury on Aug. 6, 1915, son of Raymond and Theresa Sullivan Hynes, he moved to Holyrood, Newfoundland, at 6 months of age. He attended schools there. He moved to Lenox at 18, and resided there for many years until moving to Pittsfield in the late 1940s.
He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
He was employed by GE as an electrician for 37 years and retired in 1976.
Mr. Hynes enjoyed bass fishing, and working in his woodworking shop.
He leaves his wife, the former Jean C. Fox, whom he married Sept. 4, 1948, in St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield; a son, Gary P. Hynes of Pittsfield; a daughter, Judy A. Goetze of Pittsfield; and a grandson.
Funeral services for Mr. Hynes will be private. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery in Lenox. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, both in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
