William C. Prevey, 83

DALTON, Mass. — William Charles Prevey, 83, of Sugar Hill retirement community, 45 Main St., died Wednesday Oct. 30, 2013, at Craneville Place.
Born in North Adams on Nov. 3, 1929, son of Charles and Mary Bakey Prevey, he graduated from Drury High School and from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was an outstanding UMass basketball player and was all-time leading scorer for many years. He was inducted into the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001.
An Army veteran of Korean War, he served as a first lieutenant.
Mr. Prevey was a teacher at Drury High School for many years, until his retirement. He also coached the basketball team.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. He enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown.
He leaves his sister-in-law, Patricia Prevey of Calgary, Alberta, and two nephews.
His brother, John Prevey, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Prevey will be Monday, Nov. 4, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Centrals Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 3, from 2 to 4 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Prevey was a favorite teacher of mine at Drury. He was such a kind and caring person. May he rest in peace. Class of '82
