Eleanor P. Murphy, 89

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Eleanor P. Murphy, 89, of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 28, 1923, daughter of Herbert V. and Pearl I. Raymond Spring, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.

Mrs. Murphy had been employed by as a nurse's aide in the city's hospitals and nursing homes for many years. She had worked at the former Eaton Paper Co. during World War II.

She loved country music, crafts, puzzles, traveling and being with her family. She will be missed by her children and grandchildren.

Her husband, Raymond A. Murphy Sr., whom she married on March 9, 1943, at St. Joseph's Church, died in September 1996.

She leaves a son, Raymond Murphy and his wife, Patricia, of Shutesbury; a daughter, Ellen Wood and her husband, Michael, of Pittsfield; her son-in-law, Chester Hover of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Shaun Hover, Erin Robinson, James Hover, William Murphy, Paul Murphy and the Rev. Michael Wood Jr.; eight great-grandchildren, Rachael, Rebecca, Jessica, Sydney, Christine, Tiffany, Nathan and Crystall; a great-great-granddaughter, Charlee, and her beloved nephews and nieces and friends.

Her son David Murphy died in 2007 and her daughter Cheryl P. Hover in 2010. She was also predeceased by her siblings Edward, Glenn, Herbert and Ernest Spring, Lillian Garrity and Geraldine LaJoie.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Murphy will be concelebrated by her grandson, the Rev. Michael Wood Jr., on Friday, Oct. 18, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thursday evening, Oct. 17, from 5 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli–Becivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Jude Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
