John C. Luz Jr., 81, of 74 Williamsburg Terrace died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Taunton on Feb. 11, 1920, son of John and Maria Concecao Rodriguez Luz Sr., he moved to Pittsfield in 1924. He was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he played football.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he received the Asiatic Pacific area ribbon with four stars.
He was employed by Crane & Co. for 43 years and retired in 1982.
Mr. Luz was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church in Dalton. He enjoyed gardening and golfing.
His first wife, the former Victoria Costa, whom he married June 29, 1946, died Aug. 22, 1973.
He leaves his wife, the former Jennie L. Frangipane Bonin, whom he married July 23, 1977; a daughter, Deborah Aines of New Ipswich, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Karen A. Kolis of Pittsfield; a stepson, Thomas G. Bonin of Pittsfield; a sister, Lucille P. Reardon of Dalton; two grandchildren, and three stepgrandchildren. Mr. Luz was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Arnold Luz, James Luz, Edna Dottavio and Aurea Ida Ricalzone.
Funeral services will take place Friday, Sept. 14, at 8 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. John A. Koonz, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home will be Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4 to 8.
